MALVERNE -

Police are searching for a package thief who has struck numerous homes in Nassau County.

Authorities say he has recently struck homes in Rockville Centre, Malverne, Valley Stream and Elmont. They say each time he steals a delivered package, he leaves one of his own. Police say his packages have contained old clothes, old shoes and even garbage.

Police say the suspect may be using a white Chevy van to load up his stolen goods. He is described as a black man, possibly in his 30s, with short dark hair and a thin build.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the thief to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS
