Planned repairs for an 80-year-old drawbridge are expected to bring detours for people traveling to and from Point Lookout, Lido Beach and Long Beach.
It's part of a $22.5 million project to repair the Loop Parkway drawbridge. The parkway is one of just three roads that connect to the Long Beach Barrier Island.
Officials say the closures will happen overnight and on weekends during the month of March. The Department of Transportation says drivers can also expect occasional one-lane closures during the daytime.
In a statement, the DOT says that the full shutdowns are happening during colder weather to minimize the impact on summer beach tourism and boat traffic.
Residents say they expect the work to bring travel headaches. But many say they're willing to put up with the inconvenience if it means the bridge will be improved for years to come.
The bridge work is expected to be completed in the spring of 2019.
