Police say a man has been arrested for fatally stabbing his mother during a dispute in their Center Moriches home.
Investigators say Christopher Storm Harrison, 26, stabbed his mother, Joyce Skarka, inside their Union Avenue home shortly before 10 p.m. Friday.
Skarka, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Harrison is being charged with second-degree murder. Police say he is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Sunday.
Neighbors were shocked by the violence on their street. They say the family moved onto the block about two years ago, and mostly kept to themselves aside from the occasional party.
Homicide detectives spent much of the day searching for evidence and canvassing the neighborhood for information. The street was closed off to everyone except residents as a mobile crime lab remained posted at the scene.
Authorities say their investigation into the fatal stabbing is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
