The girlfriend of a Bridgeport man accused of murdering his parents and dumping their bodies has accepted a plea deal.
Jennifer Valiante pleaded guilty to hindering apprehension, but she entered an Alford plea to a more serious charge of conspiracy to commit murder. In an Alford plea, a defendant acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict. The plea deal is for eight years in prison.
The deal was reached just weeks before Kyle Navin is expected to go on trial for the murder of his parents, who disappeared back in 2015.
Navin is accused of shooting his parents Jeffrey and Jeanette and dumping their bodies in the woods in Weston.
State police uncovered dozens of texts between Valiante and Kyle Navin where Navin wrote, "Wipe out the infection and get $ for life."
Valiante's attorney, Norm Pattis, insisted she did not conspire to kill Navin's parents, but acknowledged that she helped cover up the crime.
"She denies conspiring to kill the parents, but she loved Kyle and helped him with the clean-up," Pattis says.
Formal sentencing is set for Jan. 26.
According to Pattis, Navin has been offered a plea deal as well.  The Bridgeport State's Attorney declined to comment.
If Navin does not reach a deal with prosecutors, he could go to trial by early next year. Pattis said the deal does not require Valiante to testify against her former boyfriend.
