LEVITTOWN -

A Levittown family is pleading for justice days after their 18-year-old daughter was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Renjit Parmar says his wife was on the phone with their daughter Tarnjit when she was fatally struck by a red pickup truck Thursday night. Parmar says it was not immediately clear what happened, but he knew something was wrong.

"Then I told her... I said 'You know what? Something happened,'" Parmar recalls telling his wife. "'I want you to drive to Adelphi and as you drive to the university...look around to see if any accident happened.'"

On Hempstead Turnpike and Gardiners Avenue, not far from their home, Parmar's wife saw a lot of police and her daughter's Jeep.

It was an accident that started as a fender bender, caught on surveillance video. The video shows Tarnjit pulling into the parking lot after the accident. Police say off-camera, Tarnjit got out of her car before the driver of the pickup truck hit her and fled the scene.

The aspiring dentist was coming home from classes at Adelphi University that night, just days before her birthday on Tuesday.

Police have not yet found the driver of the red pickup truck, but Parmer has a message for the driver.

"You made a mistake," Parmar says. "You shouldn't have taken off. You can still correct it. It's not too late. Please, call the precinct and turn yourself in."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
