A new report has found that New Yorkers pay some of the highest cellphone taxes in the nation.
The Tax Foundation – a nonpartisan think-tank – ranked New York third in cellphone taxes in its annual report
Washington and Nebraska topped the list.
The report says that New Yorkers pay a total 24.64 percent in taxes on their cellphones – 18 percent of that figure comes from state and local taxes.
Some of that money goes to fund 911 services, the MTA and even some school districts.
Advocacy groups, such as Reclaim New York, say the high taxes are just another burden on overtaxed New Yorkers. They recommend complaining to state and local lawmakers.
