Suffolk County police say a 6-year-old girl bit into a piece of her Halloween candy Wednesday night and found a sewing needle.

The girl, who lives on North Hamilton Avenue in North Lindenhurst, found the needle while trying to eat a Twix Fun Size bar. Police say she felt something strange and discovered the 2-inch-long needle after taking the candy out of her mouth. She was not hurt.

"Scary to know there's people out there that would do that stuff," says John Connelly, the girl's grandfather.

Investigators believe the girl received the tainted candy along North Hamilton Avenue, Spiegelhagen Street, North Greene Avenue, North Erie Avenue or North Delaware Avenue.

Police say the girl's candy was sent to the Suffolk crime lab for testing. They advise parents to inspect their children's candy before allowing them to eat it.
