Maria Orellana held her young daughter tightly Wednesday as she prepared to attend the wake for her son Javier Castillo – a teenager who sources say was likely killed by MS-13.
News 12 reported Tuesday that the FBI used DNA to identify Castillo as the body found last month in Cow Meadow Park in Freeport. He vanished in October 2016 and was listed as a missing person with the Suffolk Police Department.
Castillo's father, Santos, told News 12 through a translator that he looked for his son for more than a year and couldn't get any information. He said he was afraid to show his face on TV.
His aunt says Castillo came to Central Islip in 2012 from El Salvador to get away from gangs there.  But his immigration attorney says Castillo ran into similar problems here, being bullied by MS-13 members while at school in Central Islip. His father said his son was quiet, intelligent and kept to himself.
Castillo's funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John of God Roman Catholic Church in Central Islip.
Last month, the bodies of two other Hispanic teens were found in Nassau County. Kerin Pineda, 19, of Freeport, was discovered near the Long Island Rail Road tracks in Freeport. Angel Soler, 16, of Roosevelt, was found in a wooded area in Roosevelt
