Police are searching for a woman who they say stole an expensive purse and money from a Bedford-Stuyvesant salon last month.
Karima Murphi, owner of Brooklyn Beauty Mix on Fulton Street, says a woman came in asking about hair extensions. The woman sat in a chair and, when the owner walked away to get water, allegedly reached her arm around and grabbed the owner's purse that was on another chair.
Video shows the suspect, who's believed to be in her 50s, taking Murphi's Gucci purse worth more than $2,000. It contained more than $5,000 in cash, her ID and her keys.
Murphi says the video shows the suspect immediately leaving and hopping into the passenger side of a car parked outside the salon. She posted the video on Facebook, and people reached out saying the suspect looks like the same woman who has robbed small businesses in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.
In each of those 10 cases, the woman wears scarves on her head and reading glasses and has been seen holding a black and red tote bag. Targeted businesses include nail salons, restaurants and jewelry stores.
Police at this point have not officially linked the Brooklyn Beauty Mix theft to the other incidents. They ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
