Residents and workers in Rockville Centre say they need to solve some parking problems near an elementary school in town.
Neighbors on Bradford Court, which abuts a rear entrance to Hewitt Elementary School, say faculty members are filling up their streets due to the lack of available parking spaces in the school lot. Residents of Fountain Avenue report a similar situation there.
The school has more than 100 employees, neighbors say, but only 70 parking spaces.
"They are making a school problem a residents' problem," says Michael Palillo, of Rockville Centre.
Some reports say the school is weighing options to find a solution to the issue. Residents surrounding the school are asking the district to build more parking spaces on its property.
Meanwhile, faculty members have reported finding harassing letters placed on their cars
Not all of the community members have a problem with the parking situation.
"It's a street," says Kaity Bird, a local parent. "It's not their driveways or anything like that...I think it's ridiculous actually that they are making a big deal about it."
Supporters note that street parking in legal places is not a crime.
The district did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment.
