NYPD officer from LI credited with taking down terror suspect

NYPD Officer Ryan Nash, of Medford, is being hailed as a hero for taking down the suspected terrorist who was mowing down people on a bike path in lower Manhattan Tuesday.
The 28-year-old sprang into action, shooting suspect Sayfullo Saipov in the abdomen and taking him into custody.
"This guy did an awesome thing. He saved a lot of lives," said Justin Lomenzo, Nash's neighbor.
The officer's house was guarded by Suffolk police all day as friends and family stopped by to visit. Nash also got high praise from Mayor Bill de Blasio and Rep. Peter King.
"Every New Yorker, every Long Islander should be exceptionally proud of Officer Nash. He represented the NYPD and law enforcement at its very best. He is a true hero," said Rep. King.
"He was very humble about what he did, but what he did was extraordinary," said Mayor de Blasio.
Neighbors told News 12 that Nash recently moved onto the block with his girlfriend, and they feel lucky that he's there.
"It's great to know I have good people around me. It makes the neighborhood safer for everyone," said Mike Maloney.
Nash has spent five years on the NYPD force.
