Bridgeport police have made an arrest in the murder of a barber who officers called a hero for trying to protect his customers at the time of his death.
Mark Christian, 32, was apprehended by members of Bridgeport's Patrol Division Monday night after their response to a domestic dispute turned into a vehicle pursuit, News 12 is told.
Officials say Christian was detained after crashing his car.
Hours after his detainment, detectives charged Christian in the Oct. 14 fatal shooting of Deon Rodney.
Police say two officers sustained minor injuries stemming from the chase. Both were hospitalized and have since been released.
Police also say that at the time of his arrest, they had already submitted a warrant to arrest him for murder but had not yet received approval.
As News 12 has reported, Rodney, a barber at the Just Right Cutz Barber Shop at 500 Park Ave., was shot and killed after trying to stop Christian and another suspect from robbing and attacking a patron.
Rodney leaves behind a wife and an 8-year-old daughter.
Rodney's wife tells News 12 he was originally from Jamaica and had dreams of becoming a veterinarian.
Police have called Rodney a hero and credited him with trying to save the lives of customers, including a child who was in the shop.
Christian is being held on a $2 million bond and is facing several charges, including murder, felony murder and conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree.
Officials say the investigation will continue until the second perpetrator is apprehended.
