An overnight storm flooded parts of Long Island's South Shore on the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy.
"I thought the village of Patchogue, Brookhaven Town or the county or somebody would have done something with storm drains or bulkheads -- so that this wouldn't happen constantly," says Cheryl Perry, a Patchogue resident who says such flooding is growing more common.
"You have a high tide, a wind out of the southeast southwest, it pushes the water in," says Paul Pontieri, the Patchogue village mayor. "That's what we are dealing with."
Similar flooding struck Mastic Beach and Lindenhurst.
Bebe Kahn, who lives in Lindenhurst, says she had to take the day off from work because her car was surrounded by water.
"It's really annoying getting around when you have to deal with this," Kahn says.
