Southampton Town Clerk

Schermeyer, 55, of Westhampton Beach, who is unopposed in seeking her fourth term, is running on the Republican, Democratic, Conservative and Independence party lines. Previously, she served as Southampton’s assistant parks superintendent and on the Westhampton Beach Village planning board. Schermeyer holds a bachelor’s degree in business, public administration and accountancy from LIU Southampton. She is involved in professional organizations and earned her Registered Municipal Clerk certification in 2011 from the New York State Town Clerks Association. She is married and has two children.

Schermeyer said she would continue to improve processes internally and work to be more efficient and get as many digitized land management records online as possible. She notes the town bidding process is now largely online, expanding how many can bid on projects. “Everyone benefits, and it also reduces costs for the town because participation increases,” she said. “There’s always room for improvement, and we work to use the resources we have to the fullest. It’s all about transparency and open government.” She said she also will continue efforts to make the town’s historic division records more accessible and inform residents that the office can scan any old records they may locate.
