Brookhaven District Court Judge, 6th District

Rosamaria Abbate, 46, of Port Jefferson, is running on the Democratic and the Working Families party lines. She has served as principal law clerk to Associate Justice Hector D. LaSalle of the Appellate Division of the 2nd Judicial Department since January 2009. Abbate was a Suffolk County assistant district attorney from 1998-2008, prosecuting criminal cases. From 1995 to 1998, she began her legal career in the Suffolk County attorney’s office, where she worked on civil matters. In 1992, Abbate graduated from Stony Brook University with a bachelor’s degree. Three years later, she earned her law degree from the Touro College Law Center. Abbate was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1996. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Suffolk County Bar Association.

Martorana, 69, of Holbrook, is running on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform party lines. He was elected in November 2011 as a judge for the 6th District Court in Brookhaven and is assigned with the District Court, 1st and 5th Districts. From 1979 to 2011, Martorana was in private practice in Brooklyn. He also served as a member of the Suffolk County Legislature’s bipartisan legislative reapportionment committee from 2001-2003. Martorana served as principal law clerk to a civil court judge in Staten Island from 1978 to 1979 and was a uniformed court officer in Manhattan from 1974 to 1978. In 2000, the Appellate Division appointed him as a mediator to handle attorney-client disputes. Martorana graduated from St. John’s University’s School of Law and was admitted into the bar in 1978. He was also admitted into Appellate Division, 2nd Department bar in 1978, U.S. District Court bar, Southern and Eastern Districts in 1979 and the U.S. Supreme Court bar in 1984. He is a member of the American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, New York State Trial Lawyers Association, Brooklyn Bar Association, Suffolk County Bar Association, Suffolk County Colombian Lawyers Association and the National Italian-American Lawyers Association.
