A West Babylon shooting left a young Valley Stream man dead Tuesday night, and authorities continued to search for the gunman a day later.
Candles served as a memorial and a marker of the crime scene Wednesday evening on North Arizona Road, where witnesses say someone gunned down Ricardo Tross, 22. He was originally from Elmont, according to his friends, but more recently moved to Valley Stream.
Police arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene around 8:30 p.m., after neighbors heard the gunshots and called 911, according to authorities.
Neighbor Vanessa Simpson says she heard about five shots while sitting on her bed.
"My grandson was sleeping on the couch," Simpson says. "I checked him, and then I dialed 911."
Daniel Alexis says Tross managed his rap group and had aspirations of becoming a professional baseball player.
Sources say Tross may have been killed during a drug deal. His relatives say they don't know what he was doing in West Babylon.
Police are asking anyone with information on the slaying to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
