A Westbury man is accused of impersonating a police officer and attempting to pull over a driver.
Police say 37-year-old Anthony Scott tried to pull over the motorist on the Northern State Parkway Saturday afternoon in Carle Place. He had a flashing light on the dashboard of his pickup truck.
When the driver stopped on nearby Glen Cove Road and Old Country Road, police say Scott walked up to the window, flashed a fake badge and a handgun, and told the driver to get out of the car.
The driver took off and contacted police.
Scott was arrested a short time later in Garden City. Police say they found the phony badge, but no gun was recovered.
News 12 spoke with suspect's stepfather, who said he's shocked to hear the accusations and first learned the details of Scott's arrest while watching News 12 on Sunday. According to family, he has no history of mental illness.

Prosecutors say Scott has a felony conviction on his record for attempted burglary.
Scott's bail was set at $30,000. He is due back in court on Wednesday.
