A Cutchogue winery that neighbors say was ruining their quality of life was shut down, but the fight against the hotspot may not be over.

Neighbors of Vineyard 48 complain of deafening noise, rowdy crowds, brawls and wandering drunks. The New York State Liquor Authority shut the venue down Thursday, ordering that it stay closed until a hearing next week. Southold officials say they want Vineyard 48 shut down for good.

"They are an inconsiderate business," says Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell. "They are inconsiderate to the community, they're disrespectful to the community, to the neighbors all around them."

Russell says the unruly behavior at Vineyard 48 has included public urination and defecation on neighbors' properties and couples having sex on neighboring lawns.

Joseph Zuhoski Jr. says he has seen it firsthand.

"I have had people in my backyard doing the you-know-what," he says. "That stuff is not supposed to happen in the little town of Cutchogue."

News 12 Long Island attempted to contact the vineyard's owners but they did not return our request for a statement.  

The New York State Liquor Authority will hold a hearing in Mineola Wednesday on whether it will permanently suspend Vineyard 48's liquor license.
