AG: Diner owners withheld $82K in wages for employees

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHAMPTON -

The new and former owner of the Princess Diner in Southampton were arrested and charged last month for allegedly ripping off 13 employees by withholding more than $82,000.

The state attorney general says Rich Bivona and John Kalogeras face a 35-count indictment, which includes several felony counts of grand larceny.

The two men are also charged with separate counts of harassment and intimidation of their employees.

Jeanine Sheppard, who worked as a waitress at the diner this summer, says she was owed more than $2,000 in wages and tips.

"I am owed this and I want it," she tells News 12 Long Island. "There is no reason for it to be like this. It's been a horrible experience."

News 12 spoke to Bivona, the diner's new owner, who said that Sheppard is owed two weeks of pay and that she can come and pick it up anytime. However, the amount he offered to pay is less than half of what she claims she is owed.

Bivona and Kalogeras are expected to appear in court for a hearing scheduled for Oct. 20 in Central Islip.
