A prayer vigil was held at the Nassau County legislative building in Mineola Wednesday night for the victims of Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas.
Elected officials from both sides of the political aisle spoke, as well as representatives from law enforcement and religious leaders, all standing in solidarity with the shooting victims.
Amid the prayers, Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas brought up the issue of gun control, saying something should be done.
“Frankly I’m mad that our federal leaders would still allow those weapons to be sold legally in this country,” Singas said. “I think we have to do something about that, because machine guns...are not for sport. Machine guns are killing machines.”
Singas also asked residents to donate blood as part of the Las Vegas relief effort.
