A Levittown couple sat down with News 12 Long Island Tuesday after days of being stranded in San Juan, Puerto Rico after the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
Jenny Delpin and Joseph Roman say they were lucky to get on the first direct flight back to John F. Kennedy International Airport Monday, but only after being stranded for five days.
The couple was staying at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino. They say the hotel refused to extend their reservation two days after the storm in an effort to make room for first responders.  The couple, along with other guests, had to sleep in the lobby, and then, on the street.
"It was just very inhumane," says Roman. "These people were sleeping on the floor with their infant children."
During their time there, they say there was little communication and barely any food or water.
"It was really a rough experience for both of us," says Delpin.
A spokesperson from Marriott International told News 12, "We care about every guest's experience and we are looking into the matter."
A limited number of flights are still departing from the San Juan airport while many others are being canceled, leaving travelers stuck at the airport.
