Sources: Hempstead teen facing murder charges is MS-13 member

A Hempstead teen, who sources say is a member of MS-13, was arrested Monday and arraigned in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old in Uniondale on Sept. 15.
Nerlin Omar Chacon-Ruano, 19, was charged with murder in the shooting death of Miguel Hernandez.
Police say Hernandez, a senior at Uniondale High School, was hanging out with friends on Maplegrove Avenue when two suspects on bicycles rolled up and opened fire. A court document says Chacon-Ruano was in possession of a 9 mm firearm at the time of the shooting and "intentionally fired multiple gunshots at the victim."
Police did not release a mugshot or any other details about the shooting. No one answered the door at Chacon-Ruano's Hemsptead home.
The Nassau District Attorney's Office says Chacon-Ruano knew Hernandez and targeted him, but wouldn't release the exact motive.
Chacon-Ruano was remanded without bail after his arraignment.
Another Uniondale High School student, Joshua Guzman, was shot to death last September in Hempstead. Police said at the time that he had begun to associate with gang members. It remains an unsolved murder.
