The mother of an Asbury Park boy with special needs says that a school bus driver dropped her son off at the wrong home.
Jovonta Hall says that her 5-year-old son Javon has non-verbal autism. She says that the boy was not dropped off at their home Tuesday, and was instead dropped off six blocks away on Monroe Avenue. Another parent found Javon and took him back to Bradley Elementary School.
“It is just so touching to me because if the wrong person would have gotten my son and didn’t return my son, God knows what could have happened,” says Hall.
Hall says that she called the Seman Tov Bus Company looking for an explanation but did not get one.
“I spoke with three different people. First I didn’t get [any] answer. Second, the bus driver was out on the bus. The dispatcher was rude and they didn’t really care what happened,” she says.
A representative from Seman Tov declined to speak with News 12 New Jersey about the incident.
Hall says the Bradley Elementary School staff and her son's teacher did everything they could to keep him calm while they waited for her to come pick him up.
She says that she worries that an incident like this could happen again.
"Please keep communication with your teachers, communication with the bus drivers, give them your phone numbers,” Hall says. “Make sure everything is secure for your kids, because…we don’t know what’s going on the bus. Especially if you have a kid that’s nonverbal or special.”
News 12 also reached out to the Asbury Park School District but did not hear back.
