Hit-and-run driver hits 102-year-old man on scooter

Police say a 102-year-old Hampton Bays man is recovering Monday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Southampton.
They say a driver struck James Quaresima, also known as "Chippy," while he was riding his motorized scooter on Fanning Avenue around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Officials say a neighbor heard the crash and called police, but the driver had already sped away. They say the impact fractured Quaresima's ribs, and he has scrapes on his arms, wrists and knees.
The victim is being treated at a hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening and that he is expected to be released within a couple of days.
Kelly Congdon, Quaresima's granddaughter, says she is urging the driver to surrender to police.
"Come forward and face what you did," she says. "It's really important, so we know the story behind it all. Chippy is a forgiving person."
