Officer surrenders to authorities in Coney Island assault case

An NYPD officer turned himself in to authorities Monday morning in connection with the assault of a 23-year-old man in July.
Raymond Crespo claims that Officer O'Keefe Thompson, 30, brutally attacked him July 8 in Coney Island after he refused to pick up a cup of ice that a friend knocked out of his hand.
Crespo was left concussed and with a bruised eye.
Thompson, who's been with the NYPD for three years, denies the charges and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and intimidation of a witness at arraignment.
The judge on Monday issued an order of protection against Thompson, who is now suspended from the department. He is due back in court Nov. 29.
