Officials: NASCAR's Ted Christopher dies in plane crash heading to LI

RIVERHEAD -

Heartbreak for racing fans across Long Island after a beloved NASCAR driver is killed in a plane crash.

Officials say Ted Christopher's small plane went down in the Connecticut wood Saturday afternoon.

The 59-year-old and his pilot were both killed.

Christopher was traveling to Riverhead Raceway at the time, for a competition that was scheduled for last night.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.
