The Sachem East football team opened the season Saturday with their first game since the death of teammate Joshua Mileto.
As News 12 has reported, Mileto was killed in a training drill accident at a preseason camp over the summer.
An emotional ceremony was held before Saturday's game against Lindenhurst to retire Mileto's No. 5 jersey. Cheerleaders wore red No. 5 shirts, and the players wore the number on their helmets.
The team chanted Josh's name and ended their huddle by yelling "forever five."
Players on the Lindenhurst team also wore No. 5 on their helmets.
