Supporters of a program that allowed children to remain in the United States even if they had been brought here illegally rallied at St. Michael's Church in Sunset Park Tuesday night.

The Trump administration announced earlier in the day that it would rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, better known as DACA.

City Councilman Carlos Menchaca was there to distribute information on DACA and to address city programs aimed to protect immigrants. Other elected and religious leaders spoke about how they planned to help protect the city's immigrant population.

Earlier in the day, a number of state and city leaders blasted the president's move, and other protests popped up around the country.

DACA has protected almost 800,000 people from deportation. Beneficiaries and their supporters say they're angry and worried about what the program's end may mean.
