Centerport man accused of driving drunk, injuring 2 stepsons

A Centerport man was charged Tuesday with aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law after allegedly striking his 13-year-old stepson while his other stepson was in the vehicle.
In court, prosecutors said Scott Lipton, 42, admitted to drinking three glasses of vodka before hitting a utility pole and his 13-year-old, who was walking on Laurel Hill Road in front of the family's home.
The incident took place Monday evening. The teen suffered a broken leg. The 9-year-old suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Lipton's attorney John Carman called the crash a "freakish accident." He said his client is cooperating with investigators.
"There is blood that was taken. Mr. Lipton consented to it…It's not easy to see how this case is going to go forward, but we are optimistic that the results will be favorable," he says.
Lipton is also facing a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. He was freed on $20,000 bond.
