Suffolk launches hotline, watch program to curb dumping

Suffolk County has launched a new hotline and community watch program in the fight against dumping and other illegal activities at public parks.
Residents can call the new "RID" hotline to report dumping, drug use and other illicit activity that are spotted on the county's more than 70,000 acres of parkland. The RID stands for "report illegal dumping."
As News 12 has reported, dumping has been a problem at multiple locations in the county. Roberto Clemente Park was recently reopened following a major decontamination effort, and West Hills Park remains closed after dumping was discovered on 15 acres of land.
Anyone who spots illegal activity at Suffolk parks is urged to call 631-854-1423 or to email RID@suffolkcountyny.gov.
Officials say anyone who witnesses dumping in progress should call 911.
