Police: 1 dead, 1 seriously injured in East Moriches crash

Police say a man has died and a woman was seriously injured following a single-car crash in East Moriches on Sunday night.

According to police, Diego Balvuca-Rivera was driving a truck westbound on Montauk Highway at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into Croce’s Body Shop located on Main Street.

Balvuca-Rivera, 30, of Bellport was pronounced dead at the scene. An unidentified female passenger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to the hospital.

Police say two other passengers in the vehicle, both male, were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The Town of Brookhaven Building Inspector was called to the scene to assess damage to the building.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
