Sen. Boyle calls for Lindenhurst traffic light after pedestrian deaths

Posted: Updated:
LINDENHURST -

A state lawmaker is calling for increased safety along a stretch of Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst.

The call comes after Pauline Aluska was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Montauk Highway near South 13th Street early Monday morning. She was struck after visiting a memorial where her brother was killed in a similar incident.

State Sen. Phil Boyle wrote a letter to Department of Transportation officials demanding that they move quickly to install a traffic light near the scene of the hit-and-run.

"These are signals we've been asking for for years, and that makes these tragedies more terrible," Boyle says. "Now that they're putting them in place, they need to complete them."

Boyle adds that the DOT has delayed the project for various reasons.

"Tragedy ensues when there are delays," he says. "We want to ensure there are no more delays and lives are saved going forward."

Boyle has spoken with the DOT regarding the matter, saying the agency plans on having a light installed in the area as late as October.
