Family and friends said goodbye Tuesday to a Sachem East High School football player who died during a football camp last week.
Joshua Mileto, 16, died after getting hit on the head with a log during a strength and conditioning drill at a preseason football camp.
Good friends say Mileto was known for his wide smile, his sense of humor and his athletic ability. He also played on the high school's baseball team and loved the New York Giants.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Lake Ronkonkoma was standing room-only during the service. Outside, friends and loved ones hugged each other and wiped away tears.
The Sachem families who spoke to News 12 Long Island said Mileto and his family will forever remain in their hearts.
"I am sure his memory will live on for a very long time," said Brandon O'Neill, of Ronkonkoma.
Mileto was buried at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram. A memorial scholarship in his name has been set up.
