Student's death shines light on summer athletic camps

STONY BROOK -

The loss of Sachem East junior Josh Mileto put a spotlight on athletic camps for some students who spend part of the summer getting in shape.

Mileto was attending a summer camp when he suffered an accident during a conditioning drill.

Longtime lacrosse coach Shari Campbell offered her concerns over summer athletic programs.

"…These kids are not in in season shape, so you really have to make adjustments for where they are in the season, mentally and emotionally," she said.

News 12 Long Island was told that the camp was supervised by coaches. School officials have so far declined to comment on the workout program or how it is run.
