A man convicted of beating his girlfriend's toddler to death was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.
Lord Pardo, 28, of Uniondale, claimed the 18-month-old boy, Mason Robinson, fell off a bed, causing his skull and ribs to fracture. The boy also had lung and liver damage.
Prosecutors said Pardo was baby-sitting the toddler and his own 3-week-old daughter when the beating occurred. They said he did nothing while the little boy slowly bled to death, then drove the dead child to his mother's job and claimed he couldn't wake the child up.
The incident occurred on Oct. 11, 2015. He was convicted on a second-degree manslaughter charge.
During the sentencing, the judge called Pardo "deplorable" and said his actions were "cowardly."
Pardo's defense attorney says he is planning an appeal.
