Officials: Drunken teen led police on chase, flipped stolen car
Police say an intoxicated teenager led officers on a chase in a stolen car from Huntington Station to Melville before crashing, with three young passengers in tow.
An officer first spotted a 2000 Ford vehicle driving recklessly on New York Avenue in Huntington Station shortly after 3 a.m. Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen in Bay Shore less than an hour earlier.
The officer attempted to pull over the driver, identified as 19-year-old Justice Bennett, but authorities say he fled, and police pursued him.
Authorities say Bennett made it to Melville before he lost control while heading west on Old Country Road. The stolen car struck a tree, overturned and ended up on the other side of the road.
Police say they determined that Bennett was intoxicated. There were three passengers in the vehicle with him, a 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds.
Bennett was hospitalized with serious injuries. His passengers were treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities say Bennett is facing multiple charges, including aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law and criminal possession of stolen property.
