The body of a missing teen was found along the shore in Shirley Monday morning after police say he was swept away by a rip current while swimming Sunday evening.

Officials say the body of 19-year-old Jevoney White, of Queens, washed ashore about a mile from Smith Point County Park.

White's friends told police that he swam out into the water around 6:45 p.m. Sunday and did not return, setting off an intensive search of the waters and shoreline.

Lifeguards leave the beach around 5:30 p.m., about an hour before White entered the water.

A girl who was with White was also swept away in the water, but a park ranger jumped in and pulled her to safety.

Chief lifeguard Robert Kolar says that before they left for the day, they posted a sign warning about the dangerous rip currents, which were moderate to heavy yesterday.

Lifeguards have a warning for other swimmers at Long Island's beaches. "Never enter the water unless there's lifeguards there," Kolar says.

Park rangers say they believe White's death marks the first drowning in the area this year.
