Police arrest suspect accused of shooting at man in Uniondale

UNIONDALE -

A Hempstead man is facing charges in connection to an alleged shooting incident in Uniondale.

Police say the suspect, Melvin Valencia, followed the victim in his car on Clinton Avenue around 4:20 a.m. Saturday.

When the victim stopped, police say Valencia fired several shots and then took off.

The victim wasn't injured.

Police say when they stopped Valencia for questioning a short time later, he jumped in his car and nearly struck the officers as he pulled away.

He was apprehended Saturday afternoon. He is facing assault, firearms and reckless endangerment charges.
