A missing 81-year-old Bay Shore grandfather with dementia was found safe Thursday after a desperate, three-day search.
Roscoe Eaton helped mobilize the search for his father, Fred Eaton. The former Suffolk County detective vanished from his home on Monday.
Two volunteers found Fred Eaton in a black car in West Islip, just blocks from his home, dehydrated but alive.
Family and friends say him being found is a testament of what can happen when an entire community comes together.
Fred Eaton was taken to the hospital, though there was no word on his condition.
