Suffolk Police Youth Academy opens doors to students

BRENTWOOD -

High school students from across Suffolk County experienced what it was like to become a police officer Tuesday at the Suffolk Police Youth Academy in Brentwood.

The students got to experience the physical demands of law enforcement and the discipline needed to become an officer.

They also learned about the special divisions inside the police force – including the aviation unit, K-9 unit and emergency services unit.

Officer Kelly Hartill says the day's events allowed students to see what it takes to pursue a career in law enforcement.
