NEW YORK - Commuters have multiple options available when it comes to getting to Manhattan during the Long Island Rail Road's "Summer of Hell," so News 12 held "The Great Commuter Race" Monday morning to find out which method is the quickest to the Empire State Building.

News 12 Long Island's Shari Einhorn won the race by taking the rails. She took the 6:33 a.m. train from Hicksville and reached the Empire State Building on 34th Street in 1 hour, 9 minutes.

Meanwhile, Newsday reporter Kristopher Brooks and his crew drove to Manhattan in a GoPro car. They reached the Empire State Building with a second-place time of 1 hour, 40 minutes.

Coming in last was News 12 Long Island's Andrew Ehinger, whose ferry ride from Glen Cove took about two hours.

Amtrak expects the work at Penn Station to last until Sept. 1.
