Commuter chaos expected from Penn Station track work

WOODBURY -

Commuter chaos is expected Monday morning on the Long Island Railroad as Amtrak will be begin track work at Penn Station.

The project is expected to cut peak hour service by about 20 percent for several weeks.

"I don't think it's going to be terrible. It's not going to be fun. I might take the ferry from Glen Cove for a couple days," says Nick Calo, of Locust Valley.

Multiple park and ride buses will be running and ferry service will be offered from Glen Cove into Manhattan and Long Island City.

Bill Kerr, of Rockville Centre, says he normally has his pick of three or four trains in the morning, but because of the track work it's down to just one. He says his plan is to make his way to Jamaica any way he can and then hop on a subway.

"We'll see how it goes. I travel a little for work so hopefully it won't affect me too much," he says.

The MTA is also offering free subway transfers during the morning rush.
