Police investigate graffiti incident in Mount Sinai as a hate crime

MT SINAI -

Anti-Semitic graffiti turned up on cars and homes around Mount Sinai, and police are investigating the rash as a hate crime.

Some residents say they woke up Friday morning and found offensive symbols painted across their driveways, cars and garage doors. Some of the messages had anti-Semitic messages.

"I went out this morning to get the paper and I saw graffiti on the driveway," says Gina Fragoletti, a homeowner in the area. "I realized they drew my daughter's name on the driveway, so I went in and told my husband."

That evidence indicates the vandals are familiar with Fragoletti's family. But other residents were targeted, too.

"I pulled my truck out of the garage, and when the garage closed behind me I saw all the graffiti on there," says James Commisso, another homeowner. "There was some swastikas and something about Jews on there."

Commisso chose to take the day off of work to clean the offensive paint off his garage. He says he was able to remove it all.
