A lizard that was being baby-sat in Bay Shore escaped and was found at a neighboring home.
The 3-year-old Savannah monitor named Bunny survived on her own for a few days until she wandered into a neighbor's yard. The family says their dogs were crazily barking Monday afternoon, so they came out into the backyard to check it out, expecting a bird or a squirrel.
Residents managed to maneuver Bunny into a cage from where she was found in back of a shed, and then posted their unusual find on Facebook.
"People in Bay Shore -- anyone lose a dinosaur? We have her. She's hissing and kind of scary," the post reads.
The post was viewed more than 7,000 times. Someone saw it and connected Bunny's owner to the people who found her.
Bunny was taken to a reptile store in Selden. A happy homecoming is expected when the shop reopens.
Both families say they're animal lovers and are thrilled about the safe reunion.
