MTA to begin ferry service from Glen Cove to NYC during ‘Summer of Hell’

There are some new options for Long Island Rail Road riders who will be impacted by the so-called "Summer of Hell."
The MTA will start a temporary ferry service out of the city of Glen Cove ferry terminal into Manhattan to relieve the pressure from the expected delays at Penn Station.
The fast ferry service will leave at 6:10 a.m. and 6:35 a.m. and will go to Pier 11 and East 34th Street in Manhattan. It will make return trips from Manhattan at 4:30 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.
The MTA is also running special ferry service from the Long Island City and Hunterspoint LIRR stations to East 34th Street
The trip from Manhattan to Glen Cove will run a little over an hour. It will be offered for monthly or daily LIRR ticket holders.
Glen Cove officials tell News 12 there are about 350 spots available for customers to park at the ferry terminal. City officials say that's a little less than the combined capacity of the two ferries.
Track work at Penn Station is set to begin in one week.
To ride any of the ferries, commuters will need to be a monthly LIRR ticket holder, have a pre-purchased paper ticket or an electronic ticket from the MTA's e-Tix app before they arrive at the dock. The LIRR says there will be no vending machines or ticket sales at the ferry docks.
