Two boats collided off Eastport Sunday evening, sending one adult and two children to the hospital.
Southampton police say a 19-foot Monterey with four people on board collided with a 26-foot Boston Whaler with six people on board in SeaTuck Cove, just south of Eastport, just before 10 p.m.
They say three people, including two children, were injured on board the smaller of the two vessels.
"Just that mere brush off and the impact of it sent the child, who was in the bow of the boat, into the water," says Lt. Susan Ralph, of the Southampton police.
Ralph says the child who fell in the water was airlifted and suffered minor injuries.  His father, the operator of the boat, and the second child also suffered minor injuries.
While Ralph says no criminality was involved in the crash, it is a clear reminder to all boaters to follow the basic rules of the water.
"Luckily for these children they were wearing their life vests.  So it's important for boaters out on the water, especially those with children on board, that those children are wearing life jackets,” says Ralph.
Officials identified the drivers of the boats as Steven Hornstein, 58, of Woodbury, and Robert Giordano, 81, of Eastport. Giordano's boat had the four passengers who suffered minor injuries.
