Documents: Man accused of stalking admits to 'creepy' online behavior

COPIAGUE -

A Long Beach man was arrested Friday for stalking a woman from Suffolk County for more than two years.

Police say Mark Lichtner repeatedly made sexually explicit phone calls to the 22-year-old from Amity Harbor from a blocked number, discussing her appearance and daily activities.

Officials say because the details were so specific, the victim believed Lichtner was stalking her.

Lichtner pleaded not guilty to stalking charges Saturday.

Police say that during their investigation, it was revealed that the 60-year-old also placed hundreds of similar calls to women across the country over the past several years. News 12 is told Lichtner found his victims on Facebook and got their information from public posts.

According to court documents, Lichtner admitted he called hundreds of girls. He told officers, "I do strange things when I'm depressed," adding that he comments on what the girls are doing and wearing and says "creepy" things to them.

Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini says it's important to protect yourself while using social media.

"Only share items with your friends on Facebook,” he says. “Make sure you are not posting anything too intimate, turn your geolocation settings off so people can't determine where you are."

Police say they believe there may be more victims and want anyone who thinks they may be a victim to call the First Precinct at 631-854-8150.

Lichtner is being held on $100,000 bond and is due back in court Wednesday.
