Sandy victims rally against home elevation deadline

A number of Superstorm Sandy victims and local officials rallied Wednesday against a New York Rising deadline regarding home elevation.
The deadline calls for victims who want to elevate their homes to submit proof from their local building department that they have applied for an elevation permit. New York Rising is requiring the paperwork be submitted by June 30 or victims risk losing eligibility for reimbursement.
Many say they need more time.
Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony D'Esposito called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to "step up" and extend the deadline for paperwork filing and for elevating homes.
News 12 reached out to the governor's office for a comment but did not hear back.
