State police: Wrong-way driver killed on SSP
State police say a man was killed in a wrong-way crash on the Southern State Parkway Tuesday afternoon.
The collision occurred around 3:15 p.m. near Exit 44W in Islip Terrance. State police say a 1999 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on the westbound side and crashed into a 2009 GMC Denali head-on.
Police say the wrong-way driver, 36-year-old Nicholas Weiss, of East Islip, died at the scene. The other motorist suffered minor injuries.
The area was shut down for hours as investigators worked to piece together the crash.
