Assistant principal pulled from school as scam allegations surface

An assistant principal at Levittown's MacArthur High School has been told not to return to work amid allegations that he scammed teachers at the school where he was previously employed.
Michael Scaduto formerly worked at a high school in the Ozone Park section of Queens. According to a report by New York City school investigators, Scaduto scammed $15,000 from two female teachers, claiming that he was helping a sick child and paying legal bills. But Scaduto later admitted to investigators that he "kept all of the money" for himself.
After leaving the Queens school, and before the investigation was complete, Scaduto was hired for a $134,000 job at MacArthur High School.
In a statement to News 12, the Levittown School District says Scaduto passed all background checks, adding, "The district had no knowledge of his actions or the accompanying investigation connected to his previous employment."
The district says that once it learned of Scaduto's past, it immediately opened its own investigation and told Scaduto not to return to the school until further notice. On Monday, the district sent letters home with students explaining its position.
The school district says it knows of no similar incidents taking place in its school involving Scaduto.
